Marnie Pearce - a mother's pain laid bare

Marnie Pearce with her two children
Marnie Pearce with her two children

It’s not often that we get to link to the Sun but today they carry a harrowing video of Marnie Pearce, a British woman jailed in Dubai for adultery, handing over her children to her estranged husband, perhaps for ever. She denies the charges.

Amnesty is calling for her immediate release as we believe that the sex lives of consenting adults shouldn’t be a matter for the law in the first place.

This coming Monday (16 March) Marnie will hear the verdict of her final appeal. But even if she is released, she is worried that she may never see her children again. Marnie Pearce is likely to be deported upon her release without an opportunity to argue her case at the custody hearing.

It’s the custody hearing that is particularly worrying – both parents should have a fair chance to have their say and the two boys should also be able to express their views, via an advocate appointed to them.

Sadly it seems highly unlikely that this will happen. And you can see the impact that this is having on Marnie Pearce.

Friends have set up an online campaign for her here.

I cant imagine the pain you are going throught, but I know how narrow minded are the decision makers in that superficial materialistic country where you live and wish you all the best of luck!

We must all realise that when we go to these & Muslim counties that we are under the scrutiny of their misogynistic belief system.

So taking this to the extreme women should not show any form of education, cover them selves at all times and should be subservient to males.

I just saw the clip of Marnie handing her kids over, totally heartbreaking. What kind of excuse for a man does this vile, sickening, mysoginistic waste of sperm think he is doing the right thing? A great advertisement for Islam. The truth speaks for itself.

These children should be with their mother, this man can't call himself a good father keeping these boys away from her.

AJ – Amnesty has been doing loads of work on this case!

We've been involved since Marnie was first imprisoned, declaring her a Prisoner of Conscience and calling for her immediate and unconditional release. Amnesty made representations (repeatedly) to the authorities in Dubai and to the UK Foreign Office, urging the latter to step-up their consular support for Marnie. We have advised her supporters regarding legal representation and have worked closely with them to keep the story in the media spotlight.

Amnesty's name was the first on the 5,000-strong petition for Marnie that was due to be handed in to the UAE embassy in London (the hand-in was eventually put on hopld as the authorities released her and suspended her deportation).

Since Marnie's release we're continued to lobby for the rights of her two children to be respected, by holding a fair custody hearing in which the views of the boys are represented, along with the views of both parents without discrimination.

We'll continue to work on the case to try to ensure that the rights of the two children, protected under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, are respected.

Hope this helps – we'll keep people updated on the blog.

Dear Marnie,

dont give up! Keep fighting for the rights of your children.

The right to see their mother and their father. I hope that their father and the justice system will understand that the kids need the love

and the presents of both parents. All the best to you and your kids.

God bless you.

Lot' s of love,

Christiane xxx
